Annie and Zoe, our dedicated “nurses for a day” helped organize the kick off for this year’s “Pennies for Patients” drive at Winthrop. All students in grades K-5 were given a take home box and encouraged to “look under the couch cushions” for any random change their family could spare (or course with parent permission!) The drive begins tomorrow (1/30/12) and will run for three weeks. Students can bring their home box into school at any time and drop it in the larger classroom boxes!
Thanks Annie and Zoe for all you did to help the students at Winthrop on Thursday, and for the patients who benefit from the assistance of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society!
Yesterday, Winthrop Elementary School had another new principal – except this one has been here for many years. Antonio Ferreira was our “Principal for the Day!” He came to school early, and well-dressed, and readied himself for a busy day by studying our Google calendar and preparing morning announcements. After that were two performances by the New England Percussion Ensemble in which Principal Ferreira made introductions and helped with seating and organization of the students. He wrote some emails and a memo, assisted in the lunch room, helped teach a 5th grade class, and hung some signs up around the school. All-in-all a fairly typical day in the life of a principal – well done Antonio!
